Life In The Barn

It never ceases to amaze me how comfortable our barn kitties
are with life around the barn.
I often see them wandering around through horses' legs...
completely unafraid.

Example...
Here is TomTom, lounging in the dry lot, just feet away from
several horses' hooves.
Without a care in the world...

Cats seem to have an innate sense of what is dangerous and what is not.

And then there is the fact that these sweet equines have never
shown any aggression towards the cats.

"Barn cats" might give you the wrong impression.
These kitties live as well as most house cats.
They are neutered or spayed and up to date on all vaccines.
(Many "barn cats" cannot boast the same...but to have
less care than this seems negligent to me.)
They each have a bed, dry food and water available 24/7,
and a heat lamp during the winter months.
Spoiled. Cats. For. Sure.

I will give them credit, though.
They keep our barn mouse-free (at least as far as I can tell.)
They thank us with offerings of rats, squirrels, voles, mice and other
creatures that could easily over-run us.

Believe it or not, a well-fed cat makes the best mouser.
It's true.

Well, we have reached another weekend.
This week flew by quickly and was delightfully filled with baby days.
This weekend I am heading to Ohio with girlfriends
for a "girls' weekend" at the Country Living Fair in Columbus.
I have wanted to attend one of these for years...and finally am getting my wish.

I'll be back Monday to tell you all about it...
and to fill you in on Hubbs' weekend caring for the farm.
Hopefully, his weekend with be uneventful!

- The Party's Over
The party's over...the sun has retreated once again. See the grayness in the air above?Yes, that's snow.Again.Just a shower...but a hint of what's to come, I hear. Today I have a few small things to share with you...just little moments that...

- Who's Who.... Part 8
With all of the attention given to Leo lately, our other barn kitties are feeling slightly jealous. I thought I would give them all a little space in today's blog post. Ella Bella is the queen of the barn...For the first several years that she was...

- Cat Tales
It has always been my impression that cats are at least mildy afraid of water...or perhaps just averse to it. That doesn't seem to be the case with TomTom or Bobby. Both of them are always right there with their faces in the buckets as we are filling...

- Wanted: Mouser
For Sale: Two Useless (but adorable) Barn Kitties.....Cheap!Actually, they are not for sale. However, it occurred to me this morning, that they are not keeping up their end of the bargain. These two fun loving felines have a warm place to sleep, two meals...

- Barn Kitties
This past weekend Miss Ella(Camilla), one of our barn kitties, reminded me that she and her buddy, Charles(Prince Charles) had never been featured in our blog. So, since she was feeling particularly photogenic that day, I snapped her picture and promised...
