Annie Misses the Point

I don't know who wrote this but they have some valid points that Annie totally missed with her snippy response. I know people who have not only failed to fill out the paperwork to enroll their children in the government-subsidized plan most states offer but people that have refused to insure their spouses and children with the reasonably priced insurance they have through their jobs.

Dear Annie: "Healthy and Scared" said she had no health insurance and you sympathized.

When I was too old to be covered by my parents' insurance, I bought my own and I was only working part time. It was the responsible thing to do. "Healthy and Scared" has many options to access health insurance. My guess is that she is unwilling to do so until someone else fills out the paperwork and foots the bill.

I teach in a public school that still has uninsured students because their parents won't take the time to enroll them in the government-subsidized plan we offer. But these same kids have the latest technology and clothes. My husband is a pharmacist, and two of my children work in pharmacies. They are constantly amazed by how many clients are on welfare and don't pay a dime for their very expensive, non-generic drugs. These same people also have the rudest, most demanding entitlement attitudes.

Forty years of cradle-to-grave government has produced at least two generations that don't know what personal responsibility means. If an adult is hungry, homeless or uninsured in this country, they have made a decision to remain so.

- My Blood Is Boiling
This is a prime example of why I DO NOT WANT UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE. They own one house on the Florida mainland. We also own another teeny house in the same county. It was our primary residence for years. It's on a boat-only island. We are also permanent...

- Health Care In Canada
Canada's care plan only covers the basics. You're still on your own for any extras, including prescription drugs. And you still have to pay for it. True -- but not as big an issue as you might think. The province does charge a small monthly premium...

- More People Should Follow Thinking Ahead's Example
Dear Annie: My husband and I strongly disagree with your advice to "Old Enough to Know Better." Though she may feel guilt because her parents seem to be in need, she has no obligation to physically or financially care for them in any way. It is our responsibility...

- How Could They Be So Wrong?
PolitiCalypso posted Insurance Industry Issues Veiled Threat to the Gulf Coast at DailyKos. Some of the comments were infuriating to say the least. Yes, State Farm made some serious mistakes in handling their Mississippi and Louisiana claims, but folks...

- Why Socialized Healthcare Is A Very Bad Idea
SONIA BENNETT MURRAY explains why National Health Care isn't the answer in her letter to the editor. For those who think National Health is a panacea for our ills - it is not! When anything is "free" it goes downhill, overused and understaffed. With...
