Happy Hank
I am writing this post for those of you who worried that a bachelor's life would be too stressful for Hank, the rooster. Ever since he has been banished from the fancy chicken's henhouse (you don't bite the hand that feeds you!), he has been living in the hayloft of the barn. Each night he returns there to roost, and each morning I open the door and out he comes to galavant around the farm.
In the beginning, he seemed a bit frustrated by the fact that all of the ladies were on the other side of the fence.
That was before he discovered the 45 chickens that live in the upper two henhouses...across the pastures. Sometime in the past several weeks he has started to hang out around the upper houses. What he knows is this.....these chickens get to leave their yard and free range all afternoon and evening. That means lots of ladies for Hank.
He has been enjoying his afternoon "dates". Amazingly, Brad and Elvis don't seem to mind Hank's presence.
Meanwhile, down in the fancy pen, Rod Stewart has his own harem. He stands very tall and proud these days...strutting his stuff for the girls.
All's well that ends well. It seems that at least amongst the chickens, everybody is happy!
Hank....smiling...
Rod, doing the happy dance.....

Rooster Update
Ending up with more roosters than we had planned on has given us a few challenges. We have experimented with living arrangements in an effort to keep all of our chickens happy and unstressed. What we have learned is this...... Some roosters are naturally...

King Of The Hill
Rod seems to have adapted to living in the barn quite nicely. He has claimed the hayloft as his kingdom and reigns from high atop the hay pile. Each night he climbs high up to his throne... and each morning, stands and crows from his lofty chamber. If...

What To Do About Rod!
Well, the routine with Rod Stewart has been the same each day. Every morning, as the sun rises....I open the door to the fancy chickens' coop so that they can spend the day in their yard. As the door opens, they all rush out, with the exception of...
