Latimer keeps it's rural charm
Residents in an area along Seaman Road, about a mile north of Interstate 10 in Latimer, won a victory over a Houston, Texas, developer who wanted to build a 280-unit apartment complex in the area.
Four of the five Jackson County supervisors voted to uphold a county Planning Commission's ruling that the character of the neighborhood had not changed sufficiently to warrant a zone change from agricultural to high-density residential, which would be needed to accommodate apartments. This is a rural area , and a Texas developer has no business coming in here and trying to destroy our way of life. The developer plans to appeal to the circuit court so we need to stay on our toes and keep this apartment complex out of Latimer. There are more suitable places to build an apartment complex in Ocean Springs & St. Martin.
