My Kind of Bank

That’s right. A bank in the year 2007 took IOUs from people just to get cash in their pockets so that these Katrina survivors could begin to . . . survive.

THAT’s innovation. THAT’s leadership. THAT’s responsiveness. THAT’s THAT’s creativity. And that is how forward thinking, responsive leaders act, particularly when the worst natural disaster hits an area.

You can read the rest of Ana Maria's diary here.

While this isn't nearly as impressive at taking IOU's, our bank did allow us to make withdrawals from out of network ATM's without charging a transaction fee. While this probably doesn't sound like a big deal to those of you who didn't go through Katrina, many of us were stuck away from home with no cash and no idea of what we would find after we returned. Once we returned to the Gulf Coast many business (the few that were open) were only taking cash as they no longer had the ability to process Credit Cards. The local newspaper (The Sun Herald) handed out free news papers and for many of us that was the only way we had of finding out what was going on outside our neighborhood. So thank you to all the business that helped out after Katrina.

- Why Christmas Isn't Merry
