Texas Developer gets OK to destroy Latimer

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors recognized the growth of the Latimer community when it voted May 21 to approve a public utilities district on 120 acres off Jim Ramsey.

The land located west of Jordan Road, which is owned by Christopher Gates, was previously zoned A-1. The supervisor's vote overturned a 3-2 vote by
the Jackson County Planning Commission to deny the zoning change.

While a public utilities district allows mixed use-developments, the ordinance governing the district requires developers to have their final plans approved by the Board of Supervisors.

Gates told commissioners that he planned to place between 200 and 225 homes on the property. The homes will range from single-family townhouses to estate-size lots. The plans also call for around an acre of commercial space and a public park, which is required under regulations for a public utilities district.

Latimer is a rural area, but thanks to the Jackson County Board of Supervisors a Texas developer has permission to come in and destroy our way of life. Even though the Jackson County Planning Commission previously denied the request.

Randall Davis, though, appeared at the commission's March hearing and told commissioners the area was still agricultural. He also said that he operated a ranch that neighbors Gates' property.

Davis told commissioners there had been no change to the area.

I wonder how long it will be after the city folk move in that they will start complaining about the smell of manure, and force Mr. Davis off his ranch? Latimer is still agricultural, it benefits no one to allow a hot shot developer to come in and destroy our way of life. If Gates truly wants to provide affordable housing there are better places in Jackson County for him to do so. Apparently the Jackson County Board of Supervisors no longer serves the public that voted them in to office. I will certainly remember that they voted to allow a Texas Developer to destroy my community when the elections roll around.
