The high school diploma isn’t what it used to be

A correspondent on National Public Radio recently opined that college was necessary for almost all because “The high school diploma isn’t what it used to be.” Why not try to make the high school diploma what it used to be?

In Massachusetts, with a fairly good high-school system, more than 30 percent of college freshmen are in remedial classes, and I understand that nationwide, the number is closer to 50 percent.

Imagine that a PUBLIC high school diploma isn't what it used to be.
