On March 26, 2006 I flew to Reno, Nevada to help Mike and Becky with their move across country. They had already packed up the U-Haul truck with their belongings and had their hybrid car in tow. We woke up early Monday morning and packed the 2 horses (Fagner and Duffy) in to the horse trailer along with Lucy Cat in the trailer's tack room. Mike drove the U-Haul with Indy (their Aussie Shepherd) riding shotgun. Becky and I led the way in the Dodge truck with Monty (big black mix) and Mr. Boo (Border Collie) sharing the back seat.
Our trip was pre-planned. We would drive 7 to 10 hours each day and stop at designated "horse hotels" along the way. At these stops we would unload the horses and allow them to graze a little and give ourselves a chance to rest and refuel for the next day's journey. We traversed the country on Interstate 80, which from what I could tell, crosses some of the least desirable areas of the West and Mid west. Some places to never visit again would be the salt flats of Utah, the feedlots of Nebraska and just about everything in between. The trip was relatively uneventful with the exception of some bad storms that we attempted to outrun on our last evening of driving. Combining the last two days' driving got us into Millerstown, PA at 3 AM on Saturday morning, April 1st.
