The Maternity Ward

Things are quiet in the pregnancy pen these days....but not for long.

Myrtle is due soon...any day now, actually.
Missy is quite large and moving slowly these days.
Sissy is still not very large...perhaps she does only have one baby as we saw on ultrasound.

O'Malley, on the other hand is rather rotund and moves unbelievably slow.
The four of these does are sequestered in their own yard that is equipped with the maternity ward. Video cameras are set so that Becky can keep an eye on them at night. Warming huts are set up and ready for the babies. The excitement is mounting! We will bring you lots of pictures when the little ones arrive!

- First Outing
For the next few months you will be seeing lots of goat pictures (I hope you don't mind!) To me, there is nothing cuter than a kid. They are so tiny and yet so well developed. Myrtle spends her whole day taking care of them....she even head-butts...

- Happy News
Missy is pregnant with twins!! This is especially good news for the farm. About a month ago we did pregnancy checks on the three female goats that were bred this Fall. Myrtle and Jill both had babies on board, but we could find no evidence of fetuses...

- Babies On Board
Becky and I braved the frigid temperatures and checked our female fainting goats for pregnancy. This involves shaving a patch of fur on their underbellies and applying a conductive jelly (brrrrrr, cold!) and then moving the ultrasound probe around against...
