All The Stuff That Makes A Day....

And so October snuck in this week while we weren't looking,
and with him came all the typical signs of Autumn.

I am no longer serenaded by birdsong as I do morning chores.

No, the song that fills the air nowadays is that of crickets chirping...
punctuated by the occasional "caw-caw" of crows.

Mornings are misty-moist and cool...
with the sun trying to peer through a thick veil of fog.

The apples stay as crisp as the morning air as we continue to enjoy
apple treats.
Ginger and MaryAnn look forward to their daily treat as well!

Mama duck and her 9 babies have survived since their arrival weeks ago...
and the youngsters have finally matured into their grown-up feathers.

Finally we can see our male to female ratio.
10 new ducks (mallards)... five of which are females, five of which are males.
Perfect.

Expect babies next summer!
Those babies will be locked up in the duck hut until mature... take that, you wily ole fox!

Can you believe it is already another Friday?
My, oh my, the weeks pass by so very quickly, don't they!
I am sure that you will be fascinated to know that the weekly rat count stands at three.
Yesterday Sammy found this big one...

picked it up gave it a big shake and I believed snapped its neck.
One second it was alive and well, the next second....gone.
Thanks Sammy... and thanks for doing it in a rather humane way.
It looks like Sammy is not about to be outdone by the barn kitties.

I spent some time yesterday afternoon installing two new game cameras in our
100 acre woods.

The first points towards this deer path...

the second points into a relatively clear area of the woods.

Hopefully over the coming months I will get pictures of the wildlife that inhabits our woods.
Who knows....maybe even a bear...and you know how I have wanted a bear picture!

And so, because of these new cameras I will be starting to post on Saturdays...
" Taking a Walk on the Wild Side " will soon become a weekly Saturday post
with pictures captured in the woods from the previous week.
Join me for a peek at what happens in the woods when no one is looking!

There's more activity here at "Wedding Central" to share with you.
Yesterday I took those burlap and linen flowers that I made last week
and constructed a few grandmothers' and mothers' corsages...

Just a little daily preparation makes a huge task like planning a farm wedding
much easier.

Happy, happy weekend to you!
I hope it is chock full of Autumn goodness!!

- Walking On The Wet And Wild Side
Yesterday's rain was too wild and crazy for my camera. So, instead, I drove over to the woods and removed the memory cards from the game cameras.I thought today we could have a look at who passed through the woods this past week. It wouldn't be...

- And Finally... The Money Shot
Yesterday's sunrise was magnificent! But what struck me even more was the post-sunrise sky. It looked as though these clouds were painted on a canvas of blue...quite unusual, and definitely noteworthy. And that was the last of the farm that I saw...

- Field Trips...on And Off The Farm
You might remember a couple weeks agothat Hubbs and I and the dogs took a hike in the woods and found a treethat had been decimated by a bear. We subsequently positioned our game cameras in that area in the hopes of capturing a bear photo. A couple...

- A Walk On The Wild Side...week 3
After reviewing this week's trail cam images,it's official...we have a lot of deer in our woods...and squirrels! There were no surprises this week...(except Hubbs riding his bike through the woods!) This family of deer showed up several times...

- A Walk Onthe Wild Side
Week One The trail cameras have been up for only two days now.Hubbs and I took the dogs for an early morning walk into the 100 acre woodsto fetch the SD card from each camera. With excitement and anticipation, we hiked the half mile through light rain to...
