After creating the table of contents for our American Literature Unit, I looked for lesson plans. I found many useful resources online (the link is provided in the table of contents), and have found other useful resources through the library and homeschool friends. We already have some of the books I will be using, and I already have the books I need for the first semester that I don't have ordered. I will order the books I need for the second semester before we get out for Christmas break. Many public libraries have book rooms where they have books for sale, reasonably priced. I intend to spend a lot of time scouring their shelves, I have found many wonderful books there.

My next project is American History. We are using History of a Free Nation published by Glencoe for our textbook. I was lucky enough to have a teacher's edition given to me, and I have the student textbook ordered. To supplement we are using Chronicle of America From Prehistory to Today ( I am really excited about being able to use this), Government & Politics in the United States (MacMillan), The Federal Union by John D. Hicks, & Magruder's American Government. We will also be checking books out of the library to supplement our lessons.

Advanced Math (Saxon)

Spanish Year II - Power Glide

Conceptual Physical Science Second Edition by Hewitt, Suchocki, Hewitt

Elective of Lord Epa's choice. He hasn't decided yet and that is fine. I have plenty to keep me busy already. Our plans are to start the second week of August after we get Shining Celebi settled in at USA (University of South Alabama).

- American Literature
American Literature is going well. We are doing a unit on Nathanial Hawthorne. The House of the Seven Gables has been completed satisfactorily. Lesson plans can be found here. I am almost finished with The Scarlett Letter. A book review will be forthcoming....

- Alasandra's Book Club ~ Anthem By Ayn Rand
Great book, and surprisingly easy to read (For Star Trek fans think Borg). Equality 7-2521 lives in a world in which it is forbidden to be alone. You are raised in the Home of Infants until you are five, then you are sent to the Hall of Students. This...

- American Literature
Since I couldn't find an American Literature book I was happy with, I am going to devise my own for Lord Epa to use next year. Here is your chance to chime in with the American author you think MUST be included. Here is a partial list of what I have...

- What We Are Reading
Our Constitution by Donald A. Ritchie & JusticeLearning.org is a wonderful American History or Government Resource. Not only is the book a great resource, but their website has lesson plans on current issues. In Global Studies we are currently reading...

- How Many Planets?
No, it's not nine. Pluto has been demoted, and is now classified as a dwarf planet, leaving us with 8 full fledged planets. The International Astronomical Union's (IAU) decision means textbooks will now have to describe a Solar System with just...
