March 27th ~ Update on pet food recall
A new report is circulating that the recent number of deaths allegedly due to the Menu Foods pet food poisoning scandal may be just the tip of the iceberg. Many more deaths have not been officially reported, and that the problem may be more extensive than originally thought, as many as 471 deaths may be likely.Pet Connection's numbers are much higher {1,871 deceased pets (1067 cats/ 804 dogs)} , but this is progress over the 15 deaths the media has been sticking with.Menu Foods pet food recall has reportedly been expanded to include all varieties of its wet dog and cat food amid mounting fears that the tainted products are still for sale.In a weekend release, Menu Foods said that even brands not on the official recall list should be removed from the shelves.Wal-Mart is still selling Special Kitty canned cat food and telling customers that it's not on the recall list, so it's safe. Apparently Menu Foods needs to do a better job getting the word out to retailers.
