sweet old girl, Maddie.
I thought, to end the week, I would share a few earlier pictures of her...
ones you have never seen.
Maddie always had an affinity towards water...
as a baby she would fall asleep in her water bowl.
And once she was full grown, spent countless hours in the duck pond...
just watching over the ducks...
She had a natural curiosity for the chickens, but quickly learned that they were
off-limits!
She was a cold-weather lover...
even as a baby...
Tennis balls? Her absolute favorite thing!
Her favorite game was fetch, until the day came that she could no longer run,
and then she loved to just play catch.
She could catch a tennis ball as well as any first-base-man.
And could hold three tennis balls in her mouth at one time!
No matter where, in the house, a tennis ball would be hidden...
she'd find it and bark until someone got it for her.
Tall grass held the allure of butterflies.
Maddie fancied herself an accomplished butterfly hunter!
She was friend to all....
All of her adult pictures have the same typical Newfie expression...
peace, love and understanding.
Of all the dogs I ever had, Maddie was the most intuitive and emotional.
She could read her family's emotions like a book.
It is my hope for each of you that sometime in your life you are lucky
enough to be loved by a creature like our Maddie.
Your life will be so much richer...and you will never be the same again.
Much love and hugs to you all...
thanks for taking this trip down memory lane with us.
Memories help us heal.
And so do friends.
Before we part for the weekend,
I wanted to share this old picture of our Sadie (we lost almost a year ago).
It is perhaps my favorite....
Have a wonderful weekend!!
Monday we will return to the land of the living...
bringing you more "tails" from the farm!
After the hustle and bustle of the holiday season,it was wonderful to be able to enjoy a quiet weekend at home. Most of Saturday we spent indoors.I finished one quilt top and started another, while Hubbs caught up on his reading. Sunday morning...
About two weeks ago, while we were on vacation, nine little ducklings hatched at our pond. This is the second generation of ducks that have come from my originalgroup of Swedish Runners, Cayugas, and Pekins. Maddie and I visited the pond yesterday afternoon...
At least once every day I see a scene like this.Hickory spreading a little lovin' all over Maddie's face. The first time I saw this I thought, "Awwwwww, how sweet. Hickory loves Maddie"And Maddie held so still....eating up the attention.(Maddie...
I am sure that by now you know how much I love my chickens. You have to have figured out by now that my favorite is Babs. She just amazes me....she is so non-chicken-like. Lately when her henhouse pals are out free ranging in the woods,...
Our poor flock of Campbell ducks has slowly dwindled down to just one lone duck. We have named her Methusela because she has lived the longest. I worry that she is lonely. We feed her daily and she spends her days happily swimming on the pond...often...
