Mud-Fest 2015

The snow is almost gone...and in its place mud...lots and lots of mud.

A little (or even a lot) of mud doesn't keep us from digging in to farm chores.
Yesterday we had winter clean-up in the goat pen.
What is usually a big (dirty) job was made easier by the fact that we had
a large group of helpers (of all ages).

We scraped and shoveled and brushed and raked...
emptying each goat house and refilling it with fresh clean bedding.
A long cold winter made this task almost impossible until now.

Our neighbors (who often help us out on the farm) brought their 18 month old, Becca along to help.
Becca is the most pleasant, easy-going little girl that I have ever known.
She is a true farm girl in the making!
Just see....

"Oooooohhh....whazzzat?"

It wasn't long until that sippy cup was in the mud!

"Mud?.....what mud?"

"Oh, you mean this mud?"

There were shrieks of delight as she followed Fred around the goat pen.

This little one is afraid of nothing!

And a little mud is not about to slow her down!
Even when she lands in it face-first!

There's nothing better than kids who aren't afraid of a little mud.

By the end of the morning, all of the kid-helpers were ready for the showers!

After we were all cleaned up, we spent the rest of the afternoon with Tyler and his Mommy and Daddy.

Sadly, Tyler arrived too late for the mud-fest!

- How A Day Can Take A Sudden Turn
Some days end up entirely different from how you envisioned them.Yes, some times you just cannot see what lies around the next corner.Yesterday was that sort of day. It all started with a fabulous sunrise. I was so glad that I had my camera with me...

- Happy Chickens...abundant Eggs
In caring for my animals, I am always trying to find the "best way" of doing things. Each morning, I open up the chicken houses and allow the girls out for free ranging. After they have all hastily exited their houses, I clean their waterer, refill...

- Digging Out
Yesterday brought us another 9 inches of snow. There was much digging out to be done by mid afternoon. A neighbor plowed our long driveway...  and we did a little clean-up work with the 4 wheeler. The chickens, turkeys, goats, pigs and donkeys...

- Helpers
In yesterday's comments "Kris" asked if I have helpers.Absolutely.... I have helpers with every task that I set out to do! Some help more than others! But seriously, before you get the wrong impression,I have to tell you.... I couldn't take...

- Playtime With Maddie
There  seems to be no shortage of cute around the farm this week. Yesterday was nursery cleaning day.  Becky and I mucked out the goat house and replaced the bedding with fresh clean hay.  While we cleaned, the new kids played in the snow...
