Sharing The Farm

Happy Monday from the land of beautiful sunrises!

We are in the midst of a long string of beautiful autumn days.
Even this weekend, which was predicted to be cloudy, was partly sunny, breezy, and cool.
Perfect!

Most of our weekend centered around hosting Hubbs' work for a
Family Farm Day.

We try to have a Family Day each summer.
Sharing our farm with friends...especially children...is one of our favorite things.

Learning to care for and respect animals is so important for children.
It is my opinion that caring for animals makes us better people.

Each child arrived telling us what he or she was excited to see...
some asking to see the cows (which we don't have)...
as well as tigers, camels, elephants and dinosaurs.

In the end, I am sure that no child went home disappointed.

We picnicked...with a wonderful array of food.
Everyone brought something to share...and everything was delicious!

Lawn games were available for all,
as well as hayrides.

We had some much appreciated help from a couple of our kids...
setting up, manning the grill, and cleaning up after the event.
(Thanks...we couldn't have done it without you!)

Sam had a busy day...
waiting for and greeting arrivals with me...

inspecting the food...

and taking frequent naps.

It's hard work being Sam!

After our guests left and clean-up was finished,
we joined our friends for our annual trip to the corn maze.
This is a map of the maze...it was huge!

As the sun sunk low in the sky, we entered the corn.

1 ½ hours later we found the exit.

Sunday I harvested what may be the last of the tomatoes and got them into the oven to roast and dry.
This coming week I will be harvesting the sweet potatoes.

We picked the kiwi berries.

Since there were more than we could quickly eat (they rot very quickly)...
we opted to dehydrate some of them.
I'll let you know how those turn out tomorrow.

Now that cooler weather has arrived,
I hope to start concentrating on working with Red and his cart.
I think he's as ready as I am!
