Thirteen Books I Read Recently
- Ride the Night Wind by L. A. Banks - another sad vampire tale.
- The Gift by Susan Squires - Davie's plans to marry Emma and live happily ever after are thwarted by Ruffords plea for help. He never expected Emma would follow him into danger.
- The Forgotten One by Ronda Thompson - Anne discovers her Aunt and Uncle have been preventing suitors from asking for her hand in order to gain control of her inheritance so she runs away with the stable hand, Merrick.
- ASPCA Complete Dog Training Manual by Bruce Fogle D.V.M. - easy to understand instructions with pictures.
- Dog Training Handbook by Stella Smyth & Sally Bergh-Roose - easy to understand instructions with pictures.
- The Only Dog Training Book You'll Ever Need by Gerilyn J. Bielakiewicz - well maybe not, but it was packed full of good advice. I liked the chapter on creating good PR for dogs so they are welcome more places and canines being used as therapy dogs.
- Dog Training for Dummies by Jack & Wendy Volhard - I disagree with them about the cons of spaying and neutering. I personally don't think there are any cons to having your pet spayed.
- Zapped by Carol Higgins Clark - A Regan & Jack Reilly Mystery. An actress is desperate to break into the Reilly's apartment to retrieve some letters she left in a safe. An unbalanced woman is going to scar a man for life if the Reilly's don't find him in time. And a lovely glass collection is burglarized during the black out.
- Paradise City by Sherrilyn Kenyon - Alix takes a job as a mechanic on Devyn Kell's spaceship. A mutual enemy pursues them and they spend the book outwitting him until he takes Alix hostage and Devyn has to give up his pacifist ways to save her.
- Good Owners, Great Dogs by Brian Kilcommons with Sarah Wilson - I am a bit disconcerted with his advice to euthanize unsocialized and aggressive dogs. Especially in the case of John Deere, whose "family" turned him into an aggressive dog with their roughhousing and neglect. As he was a very large dog I realize it would have been difficult but I think if they had neutered the dog and worked on socializing him and training him he would have been salvageable.
- Civilizing Your Puppy by Barbara J. Wrede - loved her kind approach to teaching dogs and her attitude that with "hard work" any dog can be civilized.
- The Loved Dog by Tamar Geller - this is my favourite dog training book so far. It's more like a biography and Tamar has led a very interesting life. I like her "loving approach" to teaching your dog what you want.
- One Silent Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I don't believe it I LIKE Stryker. Yeah you read that right. Stryker and Nick actually go to Acheron to save the women they love and agree to work together. Of course nobody would be in danger if it wasn't for Stryker's plotting to kill Nick and Acheron. In yet another attempt to kill Acheron Stryker visits Tartarus and releases War (The fiercest of the Machae. He was created by all the gods of war to kill the Chthonians) after gaining his promise to kill Acheron and Nick for him. And this is really scary War can actually kill Acheron. He is beating Acheron up when Savitar and twenty Charonte demons show up and enable Acheron and his family to escape to Savitar's island (Remember Savitar is a Chthonian so War can hurt him too). In fact only one thing can hurt War and that is the Malachai (and you'll never guess who the Malachai is). Unfortunately the Malachai is just discovering what he is and how to use his powers. War of course turns on Stryker who is having enough problems with his first wife (Artemis sent her to kill Stryker) and their grown daughter ( a daughter he didn't know he had). The good news is Stryker's wife controls Jared, and Jared is the only thing that can kill the Malachai. More good/bad news Stryker and his wife discover a way to circumvent Apollo's curse, they can walk in sunlight now.
