Alasandra's Book Club ~ The Android's Dream by John Scalzi
If you are looking for a book to get a male teen to read this is it. The book opens with trade negotiations between Earth and the Nidu being derailed when the Earth delegate farts the Nidu delegate to death (yeah, you read that right). But we can make it up to the Nidu all we have to do is deliver the Android's Dream.
Problem, it's a genetically altered sheep, that due to the Nidu's restrictive breeding agreements very few people raise, and the few that do are finding their flocks dead. Can the good guys find a sheep before the bad guys kill them all?
And what if it's not a sheep, what if a person has sheep DNA. You just have to love the dialogue
"I need you to connect me with Ben," Creek said. "Ben' as in my brother Ben," Brian said. "That's the one," Creek said. "Interesting," Brian said. " I don't suppose he knows about me." "I have to tell him that the sheep we're looking for is a woman who runs a pet store," Creek said."I think telling him his younger brother's been resurrected as a computer program might be a little much for one day.".Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Harry Creek computer geek extraordinaire has come up with the perfect 'artificial intelligence' by modeling the entire human brain (using the brain scan of his friend Brian who died at the Battle of Pajmhi).
The question is can Harry Creek keep his date alive long enough to convince her that she is 'part sheep'.
