Chess Discriminates Against Homeschoolers

The kids proved to be champions last year. But a team of homeschooled students from the Southeast Valley, called the Chevalier Noir (Black Knight) Academy, was shut out last weekend from competing in the Arizona Scholastic State Chess Championship in Tucson.

Harmonick said the national, and now state, chess rules for homeschool teams can be a problem. Homeschoolers must join their local public-school chess teams.

Why should homeschoolers have to join a public school team in order to compete? They are not public school students and should be allowed to compete on their homeschool groups team, not forced onto a public school team.
