Laboring

Happy Labor Day from all of us at Bee Haven Acres
to all of you..... our family and friends we've met along life's path!

We are spending our weekend partying, picnicking, laboring.
Yep, we are taking advantage of a little extra time
and working on the "long list"....
you know, those chores that are not on the daily list...
those chores you save for when you have a little more time.

Like.....
honey harvest.....
(that's me giving a hive tour to our friends)

We made it through the harvest with only one sting.
Dear daughter, Jenn, our camera woman, was stung on the finger.
Ouch!.....sorry Jenn!

We had a much better harvest this year than last.
Still not enough to sell,
but not bad.
The honey is quite lovely
and oh, so good!

Hubbs spent a bit of time watering our orchards.
The weather here has been unbelievably dry for the past two weeks,
and there is not a speck of rain on the extended forecast.

Today we will be working on a major landscaping project.

I am also rearranging chickens today....
moving the new gals in with the big flock.
Oh, and Tuesday the new rooster condo arrives.
I'll post pictures on Wednesday.

Happy Labor Day!
I sure hope you take some time to relax today.

- A Honey Of A Harvest
This Spring has been terrific for our one remaining beehive. We have a very strong queen bee who has tons of developing brood, and ever-toiling worker bees (females of course!!) who are packing the hive with delicious honey. There was so much honey...

- Baby, Its Hot Outside!
I have come to notice that the bees act as a thermometer. A few weeks ago, I published a picture of how they hang outside their hive on a hot day, cooling themselves. What I have come to notice is that the hotter it is outside, the more bees are on the...

- Looking Forward To Spring
This is an exciting time of year for us. We are presently taking a bee keeping course to increase our knowledge and ready ourselves for full time beekeeping. Our brother-in-law Mike has up to this point been the beekeeper with help from us for special...

- Honey Harvest Time Is Here
Honey harvest time has finally arrived at Bee Haven Acres. This year's unusual weather patterns have caused a bit of a honey shortage, but a couple of our hives are ready to have their extra honey extracted. Check back after the weekend for pictures...
