Witnesses said the suspect robbed the National City branch at 111 E. 29th St., between Main and Meridian streets. A description of the suspect, clad in a white polo shirt, khaki cargo shorts, springed shoes similar to Nike Shox and a baseball cap, went out over the police scanner shortly before 3 p.m. Friday.
The suspect fled on foot, prompting police to call in a search helicopter along with an Indiana State Police K-9 unit. APD Det. Kris Ockomon said at 4:20 p.m. that police had not apprehended the suspect.
“It was right around the time school was letting out and there were so many people wearing white shirts and khakis because of the uniforms,” said Ockomon.
An excellent reason to go back to dress codes and abandon mandatory school uniforms. Unless of course school boards want to help bank robbers get away.
