Bay High Brawls - Compounding the disturbing revelation that brawls are a common occurrence at Bay High is the realization that officials with the Bay St. Louis-Waveland School District left it to students using the Internet to inform the community of the fistfights.
Mr. Bounds normally I wouldn't tell you how to do your job, but since you feel it's ok to tell me how to do mine, maybe you should scrutinize student violence in the public schools before you start scrutinizing homeschoolers (which are none of your business as we do NOT receive government funds).
Soundoffers in the Sun Herald had this to say about Mississippi Gulf Coast Schools.
Heed the warnings
• I am a parent of a daughter at St. Martin Middle School. They are attending school in trailers also and these kids are so aggressive with each other that it worries me. It is not only fighting with fists. They are also hurting one another with rumors and words. I worry every day because my daughter sees things I have to explain every day. When parents try to warn the administration, they say, well, we can't do anything until something goes on at school. They post warnings about what they are going to do on MySpace and other blogs and school administrators ignore parental warnings. I say remember Columbine.
Self-preservation
• This is about the Bay High School fight. To all the people who read Sound Off: First of all, we're not all white trash. The name calling, that's great. That shows how well you were raised. My child is an honor roll student, and has never been in trouble. But when someone walks up and punches you in the face, and there are no teachers around, you do what you have to do to protect yourself. My child was raised never to fight unless to protect himself. It's called self-defense. Also, you should get the whole story before you speak out about something you know nothing about.
