New Life

I would love to be telling you that O'Malley had her babies....
that this is the "new life" to which I am referring.
"Sadly," says O'Malley, "No."

Our red gal gave us a false alarm on Sunday.
We caught her pawing at the ground,
doing her best Lamaze breathing...
"he, he, he, he, he, whoooo, whoooo, whoooo....
[cleansing breath]
repeat."

[Mucous plug expelled.]

Then she headed over to her food dish, had her fill,
and settled in for a nap in the goat fort.

False alarm.
But...it won't be long now.
More babies!!

So, what I actually was going to show you was
the new life that I found in my salad table.

I  had covered the box with clear plastic to act like a greenhouse.
We've had a lot of cold weather these last couple of weeks.
Naturally, every task is done with "helpers".

Look, what is peeking out from under the plastic.

Tiny, baby spinach plants.
And so the gardening begins.
The cycle of life continues.
The cold winter's sleep is lifted, the ground is renewed...
and new life emerges.

Pretty miraculous, when you think about it!

Baby goat update....
All four of our goats that were born these past two weeks
are spoken for.
They all have new homes to go to in about 8 weeks.

For now, though, they stay with us and get lots of loving
from us and the kids....

Keep your fingers crossed....
and maybe tomorrow I will have more babies to share with you!

- Sleep, Eat, Poop, Repeat.....
These past few days we have been given a reprieve from the wintry weather. Our snow is all but gone...save for a few foothills left by the plow. The animals all enjoy this return to Autumn.None of us were too comfortable inside Winter's icy grip....

- Great News!!
We are having babies!!Goat babies! Dr. Becky performed an ultrasound pregnancy check on our doesand found that each of them that were bred this Fallare pregnant. This was supposed to be a beating heart...but the baby moved.Ooooooh (squeals of delight),...

- Rites Of Passage
Kids are born. They shakily learn to stand on their own feet. At first they stay close to their mothers for protection. Then they venture off. They mature. They become independent. They become adults. They have their own kids. And the cycle continues......Life....

- Weanlings
Every Spring I fall head over heels in love with a new batch of kids...and each year I sadly say goodbye to them as they head to new homes. This year is no exception. It looks as if our kids have all found new homes with the exception of one buckling....

- Countdown To Goats.......
It has been in the plans for Bee Haven Acres to begin raising Fainting Goats. In the past few weeks we have gotten e-mail notice from Becky's friend, Nancy (of Critter Pines Fainting Goats in Reno), that our new babies have been born. It will take...
