The Whiskers Memorial Butterfly Garden
We are all still grieving over the loss of Whiskers. In order to honor his memory we have decided to create a butterfly garden around his grave site. He enjoyed being around his family and this will give us a peaceful spot to sit close to his grave and I can at least hope he knows how much he is still loved and that he will always have a piece of our hearts.
Yesterday we bought some azaleas. Whiskers loved hiding under my azaleas, so I think he would like having some in his butterfly garden. The azaleas I found for the butterfly garden bloom spring, summer and fall unlike the ones I have up at the house that only bloom in the spring. I got an Autumn Royalty & Autumn Starlight . We plan to get more as our finances allow the butterfly garden will be an ongoing long term project. One of my goals is to have something in bloom all year in the garden so we also purchased a pink Camilla (again we plan to plant more Camilla's as finances allow). We also got some pink calla lilies to plant (at some point I'll probably purchase some calla lily bulbs in a mixture of colors, but for now I wanted something that was already blooming).
Today I hope to find two butterfly bushes (I want a pink & a white one), Japanese Magnolia and a white & a pink dogwood. I also want to get catmint (If anyone knows where to find it on the Mississippi Gulf Coast please let me know. I hope to get it in blue and I love the Nepeta Six Hills Giant variety).
I plan to get some Chinese hibiscus and lantana and I have some Queen Anne's Lace that we are going to plant down there. I also want to get a purple and a white Chinese wisteria to go in the garden
